When is a Heavy Period too Heavy?

Periods or menstruation is a way for the body to indicate good reproductive health. Menstruation is a process where the uterus sheds its lining, the lining that was made in preparation for implantation in case of conception.

The shedding of this layer of tissues and blood is termed periods or menstruation. Some women have less blood flow during these days but some women have heavier blood loss. Very heavy periods can be a sign of a disorder often referred to as Menorrhagia.

Such women can make use of heavy-duty pads such as Rio pads for heavy flow that helps in absorbing more blood and retaining longer hours than regular sanitary napkins in the market. Blood flow that is extremely high and soaking more than one pad in an hour for several hours can be a sign of distress and needs to be evaluated by a Gynecologist. It could be a sign of Menorrhagia.

Many women have a more than usual blood flow during their periods and in most cases, this is nothing to be worried about. But in some cases, this may be a sign of a bigger disorder termed  Menorrhagia. In this case, the patient may experience severe blood flow during periods. Some of the signs of heavy blood flow during periods are mentioned below:

But it is best to get evaluated by a doctor if one or more signs listed above is persisting for a long period of time. Menorrhagia is a severe blood loss condition that can weaken the patients to an extent and make their day-to-day lives extremely challenging.

Reasons for Heavy Periods

There are no sure reasons why some women contract menorrhagia. There are some reasons which may or may not apply to women. Below are those reasons:

These are some of the reasons why a person may have excessive bleeding. In these scenarios, a doctor may help in diagnosing the issue and therefore offer the best care and remedy for the situation based on the cause.

Managing Heavy Blood Flow

There are many best heavy flow pads in the market that are now designed for those who have more than usual blood discharge and therefore need to use more than a single pad each time fearing leakage or staining. Brands such as Rio pads for heavy flow are made with Japanese SAP which is a polymer-based technology that avoids leakage and staining and can retain heavy discharge for a long period of time.
